CPEX fills an ever-growing gap that exists between the governmental, nonprofit, and private sectors.

CPEX has been the motivating force for projects that local Planning Commissions are unable to undertake. CPEX is able to do this due to its community outreach and grant funding. Government Street’s transformation would not have happened without CPEX’s multi-year strategy of demonstrating what a revamped Government Street would look like. The Smart Growth Summit is also fertile ground for ideas and productive governmental policy. Overall, the work of CPEX is the catalyst for a better Louisiana.

CPEX’s work is important due to its deliberate commitment to inclusivity, ensuring that the diverse voices of all Louisianans are not only heard, but also actively integrated into the planning and decision-making processes that affect their lives.

Great communities aren’t built by coincidence. There needs to be a shared vision for sustainable growth and development that includes the voices of everyone impacted. CPEX’s work is so important because it’s intentional in integrating the voices of all Louisianans into the planning and decision-making process.

Visionary planning is a long game – we must plant the seeds today for the future we want five, fifteen, and fifty years from now. CPEX is planting these seeds, bringing vision, thought leadership, and planning expertise to address Louisiana’s most pressing needs at all scales, from small rural communities to state agencies and international events. This work is critical to our shared future in Louisiana.

Everyone deserves to love where they live. But creating a space that provides a safe, healthy and secure environment is difficult and can be impacted by a lot of factors. The CPEX staff has deep knowledge of the issues that affect the built environment. They are thought leaders on some of the biggest challenges South Louisiana is facing—drainage and the impact of severe weather on our communities. Because CPEX is a non-profit, it has the freedom to focus on doing good, sharing resources, and bringing people together to thoughtfully plan what our communities will look like to sustain all of our best resources, create healthy and beautiful environments and mitigate risk.

I have had the opportunity to not only support CPEX’s planning work as a funder, but also to work alongside CPEX staff in the community. I understand the unique and critical role the organization plays in planning and resiliency efforts statewide and am happy to support their work.

The quality of life in Mid City has improved dramatically over the past five years thanks to the Government Street Better Block. Seeing that the city was willing to make this investment in a complete street intended to make the neighborhood a better, safer place has spurred so much development and investment in the area and has very rapidly transformed the corridor into a thriving hub.

The City of Gonzales has had the pleasure of working with CPEX on numerous, successful projects, but the recent Climate Action and Resilience Plan highlighted the vast areas of expertise available through CPEX: planning, community engagement, graphic design, and data development. Without their dedicated, professional team, Gonzales would have never accomplished these challenging projects!
