Summary

Through EPA’s Climate Pollution Reduction Grant, CPEX developed the Louisiana Priority Climate Action Plan (PCAP). CPEX developed outreach and engagement material with stakeholders, elected officials, and the public to provide environmental and socio-economic information and solicit input on priority projects and outcomes from community stakeholders. Within four months, CPEX completed outreach and engagement and drafted and finalized the Priority Climate Action Plan, released January 5th, 2024.

Integral to the PCAP’s development was a strong emphasis on community engagement and input, underscoring a commitment to inclusivity and responsiveness to local perspectives. This collaborative approach enhances the plan’s effectiveness but also positions the state strategically for securing Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) implementation grants. These grants serve as crucial support for initiatives geared towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions and undertaking related projects.

Over the next two years, CPEX will lead the stakeholder and community outreach and engagement for identifying workforce, public health, energy burden, access to community assets, and environmental quality benefits. CPEX will draft the Comprehensive Climate Action Plan focused on strategies that provide community benefits and reduce pollutants.
