Through our strategic planning partnership with CPEX, especially with the LA SAFE Program, St. John the Baptist Parish is primed to grow smarter and to better adapt to the changing environment. CPEX is helping us realize the VISION for our Parish through meaningful engagement with our residents.

Everyone deserves to love where they live. But creating a space that provides a safe, healthy and secure environment is difficult and can be impacted by a lot of factors. The CPEX staff has deep knowledge of the issues that affect the built environment. They are thought leaders on some of the biggest challenges South Louisiana is facing—drainage and the impact of severe weather on our communities. Because CPEX is a non-profit, it has the freedom to focus on doing good, sharing resources, and bringing people together to thoughtfully plan what our communities will look like to sustain all of our best resources, create healthy and beautiful environments and mitigate risk.

Their team took a comprehensive approach to making our downtown more walkable, coordinating the community and vested partners in order to address connectivity. We are very pleased with the results and are beginning to implement some of the plan’s recommendations.

The STAC Pilot Project has provided a great opportunity to grow in our understanding of the ways we can remove barriers to health and encourage active transportation, and the attention we as a community need to pay to make that possible.

I attend the Smart Growth Summit each year because CPEX does a remarkable job addressing the issues facing our communities, focusing on solutions we can use.

The City of Gonzales has had the pleasure of working with CPEX on numerous, successful projects, but the recent Climate Action and Resilience Plan highlighted the vast areas of expertise available through CPEX: planning, community engagement, graphic design, and data development. Without their dedicated, professional team, Gonzales would have never accomplished these challenging projects!

CPEX has been the motivating force for projects that local Planning Commissions are unable to undertake. CPEX is able to do this due to its community outreach and grant funding. Government Street’s transformation would not have happened without CPEX’s multi-year strategy of demonstrating what a revamped Government Street would look like. The Smart Growth Summit is also fertile ground for ideas and productive governmental policy. Overall, the work of CPEX is the catalyst for a better Louisiana.
