Summary

The Louisiana Sustainable Adaptations for Future Environments (LA SAFE) effort was a six-parish planning effort focused on engaging residents in conversations about the various levels of flood risk in their community now and in the future and identifying and prioritizing strategies and opportunities to reduce their flood risk and increase prosperity.

CPEX led the outreach and community engagement in St. John the Baptist and Terrebonne Parish and drafted the adaptation strategies for all six parishes, employing and incorporating known best practices to manage water, increase quality of life through mobility, access to housing, jobs, recreation, and education.

CPEX took a comprehensive approach to develop strategies that address risk and seize economic opportunities in each parish, while also focusing on cultural preservation and heritage unique to each community.

Outcome

Ten implementation projects were selected in 2018 during the LA SAFE planning process. All ten are currently in the design or construction phase and the funding for these will be expended by 2022.
