Summary

In partnership with Congressman Garret Graves’ office, CPEX presented the City of Gonzales with the USDA’s Emergency Watershed Protection Program, which is being used for the first time in Louisiana. City staff engaged CPEX to guide homeowners in the flood-prone Silverleaf neighborhood through the process of determining property values and considering buyout options. CPEX is using lessons learned to inform relocation and buyout policy at the state level. CPEX has been engaged with each of the 43 property owners in completing the USDA application, submitting the necessary documents, and communicating with the owners, City of Gonzales, State Office of Community Development and USDA.

Outcome

Applications were successfully submitted for all 43 property owners, and appraisals are being conducted.
